Prof. Akilagpa Sawyerr
Akilagpa Sawyerr, a Professor of Law, former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ghana and a former Member of the Council of State, has taught and held fellowships and visiting appointments at universities throughout the world, including the Universities of Dar-es-Salaam (Tanzania), Ghana and Papua New Guinea; Yale, Harvard, and Northwestern University Law Schools; and the Max-Planck-Institut, Hamburg (Germany).
He has held office as Secretary-General of the Association of African Universities and served on the governing bodies of several institutions including the United Nations University (Tokyo); Commonwealth of Learning (Vancouver), Human Sciences Research Council (South Africa) and United Nations Committee for Development Policy (New York).
His current research interests focus on globalisation, higher education and international negotiations.
He was educated at Achimota School and the Universities of Durham, London and California, Berkeley, obtaining the degrees of LLB, LLM and J.S.D. He is a Barrister at Law and a Solicitor of the Supreme Courts of Ghana and of Papua New Guinea.
Prof. Kofi Anyidoho
PROFESSOR KOFI ANYIDOHO is a poet, literary scholar, educator and cultural activist deeply involved in various initiatives designed to promote African culture and history.
He has served on the editorial/advisory boards of various journals, including Journal of the Faculty of Arts (Legon), Research Review (Legon), The New Legon Observer (as Chairman), Marang (University of Botswana), Journal of Folklore Research (Indiana University-Bloomington), GEFAME: a Web-Based Journal of African Studies (University of Michigan), Research in African Literatures (Ohio State University), and SKASE Journal of Literary Studies (Slovak Association for the Study of English).
Prof. Anyidoho has published several journal articles and book chapters, and has edited a number of major books on African literature and culture. He is a widely acclaimed poet who has published several collections in English and produced CD recordings of his poetry in Ewe.
He holds a B.A. Honours in English and Linguistics from the University of Ghana-Legon, an M.A. in Folklore from Indiana University-Bloomington and a PhD in Comparative Literature from the University of Texas in Austin.
Prof. Ivan Addae Mensah
Ivan Addae Mensah is an Emeritus Professor of Chemistry and a former Vice Chancellor of the University of Ghana. He is a Life Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry, Fellow of the Ghana Academy of Arts and Sciences and a Fellow of the Ghana Chemical Society.
He was awarded the State Honour of Companion of the Order of the Volta (COV) by the State of Ghana in 2006 for his contribution to education and public service by Former Ghanaian President John Kufuor.
He was educated at Achimota School, the University of Ghana, Legon, and Churchill College, Cambridge, United Kingdom where he had his BSc and M.Sc.
Dr. Obi Berko Damoah
Dr. Obi Berko is currently a senior lecturer at the University of Ghana Business School. He is a member of the Academy of Management (AoM) and the Academy of International Business (AIB), the two leading professional academic associations worldwide.
His current research interests focus on Network and Business Development, Strategy and Business Development, Strategic Human Resource and Project Management in climate change.
Dr. Damoah, Obi Berko holds a PhD (Strategy & International Business) (Wales, UK), MBA (Corporate Strategy & Economic Policy (the Netherlands), M.Phil (Finance Option) (Ghana) & BSc Administration (Accounting Option) (Ghana).
Raymond A. Winbush
Ray is a research professor and the Director of the Institute for Urban Research. As a scholar and activist, he is known for his systems-thinking approaches to understanding the impact of racism/white supremacy on the global African community. His writings, consultations, and research have been instrumental in understanding developmental stages in Black males, public policy and its connection to compensatory justice, relationships between Black males and females, infusion of African studies into school curricula, and the impact of hip hop culture on the contemporary American landscape.
He has served as a faculty member and administrator at a number of universities including: Oakwood University, Alabama A&M University, Vanderbilt University, and Fisk University. Over the last 40 years, Winbush established numerous projects to raise awareness of America’s race relations and their impact upon the lives of Black people. He received grants to further his work from the National Science Foundation, Cleveland Foundation, Job Training Partnership Act of 1982, West African Research Association, Pitney Bowes, Inc., the Ford Motor Company, and the Kellogg Foundation. In 2000, Dr. Winbush helped organize the first international conference of the National Council for Black Studies in Ghana, and in 2002 he aided in establishing the Global Afrikan Congress, the largest pan-African organization in the world.
Prof. Iman Youssef el Bastawisi el Gharbawi
PROF. IMAN YOUSSEF EL BASTAWISI EL GHARBAWI is a social anthropologist with various and multiple areas of interest, a freelance researcher, consultant, author and social worker. She has led and participated in various applied anthropological field studies, especially in the desert communities among tribal communities.
Professor Iman Youssef El Bastawisi El Gharbawi has published several journal articles and books. She is currently a member of the editorial committee of the journal of the National Committee of Social Science, Philosophy and Anthropology which is supported by Egypt’s National Supreme Council of Culture. She has held several offices including Executive Secretary of the Association for the Development and Promotion of Environmental Technology CADPET; Team lead for the National Survey of Medicinal Plants in Western Desert Oases research project; Team lead for SEAM program on “Consultation among Bedouins on Environmental Issues in South Sinai”.
Her areas of interests for social work include Anthropology and Environment; Social services to poor rural areas in Africa; Gender Issues; Cultural Heritage; Developing Desert Societies; and Ecotourism and Eco-lodges among others. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Alexandria University in Alexandria, Egypt, a Master’s degree and PhD from the American University and Cairo University all in Cairo, Egypt respectively.
